Loss of Coverage
Loss of coverage applies to the following events:
- Your spouse/partner loses their own coverage,
- You were on your spouse/partner’s employer sponsored health coverage, and they are losing that coverage,
- Your kids were on your spouse/partner’s employer sponsored health coverage, and they are losing their coverage,
- You were on your spouse/partner’s employer sponsored health coverage and have legally separated or divorced and are no longer eligible for their coverage.
Please note, adding a new child by birth or adoption does not apply to this QLE type. Please see those family qualifying life event pages by clicking each link.
NEED TO KNOW, before you get started:
- When coming onto Sana benefits due to a loss of coverage, the new Sana coverage will begin on the first of the month following the event date.
- If the loss of coverage occurs mid-month, your Sana coverage will still begin on the first of the month following that event date. It is very common for insurance to end on the last day of the month in which a termination occurs but there may be unique circumstances when your spouse or partner’s coverage does not extend through the last day of the month. And this is important because, Sana cannot make exceptions to allow enrollment onto the medical plans before that first of the month plan rule.
- It can take up to 10 business days to process a new enrollment and receive new medical and dental cards at your home once your enrollment has been submitted. Plan accordingly and let your providers know if there are healthcare needs or you’re getting low on a Rx.
Action Item:
- In ADP, enroll self or self and spouse or partner in the Sana benefits that are needed. If needed, you can use the step-by-step guide found under the blue drop down to the right.
- Send your documentation showing that a qualifying event occurred with the date of the event to totalrewards@sana.com. This notifies the benefits team who will approve your new benefit enrollment in ADP.
IMPORTANT! You have thirty (30) days to enroll in Sana benefits from the date of the event. The event date is typically the termination date. If you’re not sure what the event date is, contact totalrewards@sana.com with your documentation.
- Also, review your financial and insurance plans to make any changes to your coverage, contributions, or beneficiary designations.
