Long Term Disability (LTD)
If you become sick or injured and cannot work, disability insurance helps to protect your income while you recover. Executive Management employees are automatically enrolled in Long Term Disability which is paid for in full by Santa Clara VTA through New York Life. Administrative employees are eligible to enroll in one of the three LTD plan options through New York Life - premium is paid for by the employee.
Class 1 employees may also be eligible for an LTD program that kicks in after a 45 ay waiting period: "If an Executive Management employee becomes disabled and unable to perform their duties for more than 45 continuous calendar days, VTA will continue the employee’s normal salary, starting on the 46th day of disability, less applicable mandatory and voluntary deductions. Salary shall be continued for a period not to exceed 12 months. STO and Sick leave shall not be accrued or charged during the period of salary continuance." Once the 1 year is exhausted, they may be eligible for continuation of LTD with the $6,800 monthly max.
