The Benefits Team is responsible for administering VTA's medical, dental, vision, life insurance and disability plans, flexible spending accounts, and transit pass distribution for approximately 2,200 employees and 2,000 retirees.

Benefits staff processes all employee and retiree enrollments and changes, the annual Open Enrollment, and all life insurance claims. We work with employees and retirees regarding eligibility, plans, and service areas. Our team is responsible for implementing health and welfare contracts, procedures and processes, system interfaces including eligibility and payment data, and for ensuring compliance with COBRA, HIPAA, Medicare, the Affordable Care Act, and other laws affecting health and welfare benefits. We also sponsor wellness initiatives, including blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, lunch and learn programs, and a walking program.

Benefits staff oversee and handle Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), California Family Rights Act (CFRA), State Disability Insurance (SDI), and Paid Family Leave (PFL). We collaborate with operational divisions, and ensure processes are compliant.
