Commuter Pre-Tax Benefit Plan (FSA)

The commuter FSA plan allows employees to designate up to $300 per month, pre-tax, toward the cost of mass transit (ferry, bus, train, etc.) to commute to work. Employees may also designate up to $300 pre-tax per month toward parking expenses for work related purposes (the cost of daily or monthly fees to park and take mass transit).

An additional $3.75 per month administrative fee (for one or both plans) is automatically deducted from your paycheck and continues while funds are on deposit with the FSA provider. You may sign up for this FSA Plan anytime during the year.

The Commuter Benefits Program saves you money on taxes if you commute to and from work using public transportation and/or if you pay for parking at or near work. Once you sign up, funds are deducted from your paycheck automatically on a pre-tax basis, lowering your taxable income.

The maximum pre-tax transit contribution for parking is $300 per month. The program is administered through Basic. You’ll receive a Benefits debit card that you can use to pay providers at the time of service directly from your transit and/or parking account. If a parking facility doesn’t accept debit card payments, you can pay out-of-pocket and submit a reimbursement request from your account. If you are enrolled in a Flexible Spending Account, the Transportation benefit will be added to your Basic debit card.

Transit Agency Integration
Enrolled participants can now make select transit agency purchases directly through Basic's ordering platform - cutting out the step of loading funds to a Basic debit card and then using the debit card to make their transit agency purchase. This feature is currently only available to plan participants located in California within the Clipper Transit Agency service area.
