Get the shot, not the flu!

What is the flu and how is it spread?

The flu is a highly contagious respiratory virus  that can cause mild to severe illness. Flu symptoms can occur suddenly and include fever, cough, sore throat, headaches, and fatigue.

The flu virus is spread from person to person by droplets made when people with the flu cough or sneeze. The virus spreads when these droplets land on the nose, eyes or mouth of people nearby or by touching a surface or object with the flu virus on it.

Should you get a flu shot?

Yes! The flu is a highly contagious respiratory virus, so it is important to do everything you can to prevent it. A flu shot is the best way to lower your chances of getting the flu and prevent spreading it to your family and friends. Getting the flu vaccine each year gives you the best protection.

Other actions you can take to prevent the spread of germs include:

  • Avoiding  close contact with people who are sick
  • Washing your hands often
  • Covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough
  • Cleaning objects and surfaces that may be contaminated
