Life Insurance
Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance help provide a foundation of financial protection for family if something happens to you.
What is Group Basic Life Insurance?
DCP provides an amount of life and AD&D coverage to eligible employees. Group Term Life Insurance pays a benefit to your chosen beneficiary(ies) if you die while you are a member of the group covered by the policy. It doesn’t earn interest and has no cash value but can help protect the financial future of your loved ones.
Group AD&D pays a benefit in addition to your life insurance if you die as the result of a covered accident. It also pays benefits for loss of limb, hearing, speech, sight, and other serious losses resulting from an accident. See your policy documents for details of coverage.
Beyond paying a benefit in the event of your death, your group life insurance program has other important features:
- Take your coverage with you – If you are no longer eligible for coverage as an active employee, you may be eligible to port your group life insurance coverage (ported coverage ends at age 70) or you may convert your life coverage to an individual life insurance policy. Premiums may be higher than those paid by active employees.
- Early benefit payments if diagnosed as terminally ill – If an insured person becomes terminally ill with a life expectancy of 12 months or less, he/she may request early payment of up to 100 percent of the life insurance amount, up to a maximum of $1,000,000 (basic and supplemental combined).
- No premiums if you become disabled – If you become totally disabled according to the terms of your certificate, life insurance premiums may be waived.
